Through the Honors College, I joined the Advanced Research and Creativity in Honors (ARCH) program to present my research on 21st century education.

The ARCH program was great opportunity to engage in supervised research under the supervision of FIU faculty experts from all academic areas. Since I am working towards a career in urban planning and international development, ARCH provide the resources, knowledge and assistance to conduct solid research.

My research analyzed how different international education models where including 21st century learning in their curricula. Since society is rapidly changing due to technology and our growing connectivity to different country, I argued that the educational institution needs to play an active role in preparing student for this environment. Students and youth are the future of society and in order to have prosperous community we need to have well informed and educated community members.

I used a rubric created by the Partnership for 21st Century Learning to assess the school’s effectiveness in teaching students for the 21st century.

March 29th 2017, I presented my findings at the Conference of Undergraduate Research at FIU. I created a poster presentation and engaged with students, academics and faculty members.

Conducting research had its share of ups and down but I’m glad I participated in ARCH. I was a great taste of the process of conducting academic research and as a Sociology major, it reaffirmed the importance of research in creating sustainable, positive change in society.
